The Arab citizen really cares about his reputation among people. He becomes so angry if someone calls him by bad words or qualifies him by some qualities that he doesn’t like. Reputation, for some people, can be considered as his great honor. There are many crimes in many Arab countries can be set as an example for this. For families, reputation mainly controls the actions and the reactions of them.

The common culture implies that the girl’s reputation is the most important thing for her. If it is a bad one, she really will be hurt and never get married. If it is a good one, it acts as a sign to attract men to court her, and ask her to marry.

Reputation and its great concern are not something new, but it has its stem in the Arab community. In the ancient times, reputation was such a great thing to be proud of. Families never allow the poet who wrote about their daughter to marry her. They never allow any chance to be a subject for other people to talk about in a bad way.

So, reputation is considered as an unwritten but very much respected law. It doesn’t matter if this good reputation is real or fake, but what is really important is it is a good one. It doesn’t matter if the person himself is a good one, but what really matters is what people say about him, according to a famous proverb that means; to have a good reputation is better than being rich.

Many people really care about it. They don’t publish any criticism, crimes, murders, or any one of the community’s defects, all for one reason; the fear of having the home a bad reputation. As a result, and also for the same reason; they refuse to discuss the defects of the society.

It doesn’t deserve so much concern that we thought. It is not the real criterion of evaluation man. It may be a fake one which can be made under command. Media can do any thing; it can turn the murderer into a kind person, and the Muslim into a terrorist.

We should really rethink about the idea of reputation. We should realize that the man’s real reputation can be seen in his deeds.
