Some times when I discuss some matters about Egypt with my Arab friends of different nationalities, some of them criticize many things about Egypt. Do you know the most things they don’t like about Egypt? Dictatorship! Imagine! This word makes me mad. Then I reply: start by yourself, as a polite way to referee to his country that actually suffer from more serious problems from which Egypt suffers from, including dictatorship.

Arabs criticize Egypt because it does not fight against Israel, and does not support Palestine and does nothing to release Alaqsa. I became mad again and say: “go ahead brother; fight and release it yourself Victor”.

And so on in every discussion about Egypt, they criticize and even attack Egypt, while he himself suffers the same problems in his country, and he is still discussing and criticizing. I wonder; do Arabs suffer from schizophrenia to that much? They forget what their countries suffer from and criticize Egypt all the time. We should remember that we are all the same and share the same problems.

That may happen not only in a friends’ discussion, but it also happens on a wider level, international level. For example; the Arab TV channel that concentrates all the time on Egypt’s defects, while saying no single word about their own problems they face in their country, while actually they have plenty of serious problems.

Is the reason behind this phenomenon just hope in Egypt; This hope about Egypt’s greatest historical role that gives it the chance to solve problems. They believe that Egypt is their only way to get rid of all sorts of problems. They believe that Egypt is the only reason of both glory and defeat.

Most of the Arab peoples believe that their freedom comes through Egypt. They believe that the establishment of the state of Palestine will never be done without Egypt’s will. They also believe that the release of Alaqsa is the responsibility of Egypt. The matter is not only about the big cases, but some people believe that their inner problems, like unemployment, poverty, and many other social problems can not be solved without the interfere of Egypt. Even the educational problems and sports, Egypt must be a party of all that.

Those people, whether they loved Egypt or not, whether they believed in its role in forming the future of the Arab nation or believe that Egypt is the main reason of the failure of the nation; they still believe in Egypt and set their hopes on it.

May be some Arabs still count on Egypt and consider its leading role. And for them, the leader is responsible for every thing; responsible for success, and also for failure, praised in glory and blamed for loss. As if they want to say: “as long as you are the leader, take every thing in your shoulders”.

May be this feeling is a mere expansion of the national trend that was lead by Egypt during the reign of the ex-president Gamal Abdel Nasser. During his time, Egypt was the main destination of all Arabs’ feelings and dreams from the ocean to the Gulf. May be it was because of the feeling of (reliance on others) that all Arabs still feel, and the theory of: you start first, and when you take the first steps forward; there will be no one with you. This feeling of reliance on others, many have used to it, and when Abdel Nasser died; every one turned to attack Egypt.

They forgot that Egypt has been changed as well as the whole world changed. They forget that Egypt sent the scholarships to other Arab countries at its own expense, and also received thousands of Arab students to study in Al-Azhar institution also at its own expense. Egypt helped some Arab countries to develop and supported the Arab liberty movements and sent its soldiers for military assistance to them. They forgot that Egypt had launched four main wars against Israel; the last of them was on October 1973 when the legend of “the army of Israel can never be defeated” came to its end, and released the seized land of Egypt. Egypt that used to be generous with every one all the time has changed. The Egyptians, for the first time, knew the way to emigration. And because of the severe wars, the social and economic problems became aggravated, and so; Egypt had to go back and concentrate on its own problems.

Some people think that Egypt has let the Arabs down, and others became more extravagant and say that Egypt has betrayed the Arabs, and of coarse it is not true. Egypt has served the Arab nation so much, and talking about this again will not be useful right now. But Egypt is a part of the Arab nation, a part that can not be separated. What happens in Egypt affects Arab nation as whole, and what happens in any where in the Arab nation affects Egypt as well. But some people still think that Egypt has no right to be affected, and has no right to stop and recover.

Egypt suffers from serious problems, which are the same problems from which most of the Arab countries suffer from. I have visited most of the Arab countries and I have found out that we have similar problems and also share similar dreams. And the routine of the Egyptian council also exists in many other Arab types of council, and the corruption is also in Egypt and many other countries. We all suffer from the same problems, but some people think that Egypt is the main problem.

All the Arabs aim at the political pluralism and more freedom, democracy, and social justice and liberty that make all people equal before law, and many other dreams and hopes that all Arabs share.

There is no problem for Egypt to remain the source of hope and the leader of the Arab nation, but what I refuse is the complete reliance on Egypt and make all the problems of the Arab nation its own responsibility, and then the Arabs have nothing to do but watching whether Egypt is going to succeed in solving them or not.

This what really happens according to the Arab policy, and to believe it; lets do a list of the Arab countries that really care about the Palestinian case, you will find out that most of the Arab countries do nothing for this case. They only belong to Arabs by their membership in the Arab League. Lets concentrate and define exactly the Arab countries that cared about the case of Palestine and worked hard to solve it, and to protect the Arab nation in general from the surrounding dangers, we will find that only KSA and Egypt who work for all of that.

The matter is not only doing nothing, but what is more dangerous is that there are some Arab countries that conspire against Egypt and its role. The want to control it and extort it to achieve their local interests, some others aim at playing its role, and then they will be able to conspire and stab in back.

The theory of Arab Nationalism, which was created by the ex-president Abdel Nasser, had failed although it was full of enthusiasm, intense interest and inspiration that are still fired till now in many Arab countries. The theory failed because of several social and cultural considerations. Now we need a new theory that fits the new-world theories, in which power and interests are the only criteria of the development of nations.

Today, the Palestinian case comes to its end, suffering from many Arab and national conflicts, especially the Palestinian-Palestinian conflict and the aggressive Israeli intentions, and the other dangers that threaten Al-Aqsa mosque. It became different now according to all these circumstances.

Now, there is no way for reliance on others while setting enjoying doing no thing but accusing Egypt of all the current problems. Now, we should all cooperate to face the common problems and challenges that threaten the Arab nation.

Today we make our fate and every one should be ready to face the challenges. And every one, especially who only used to watch, should know that the danger threatens all of us, who is close to it and who is not, who suffers from the severe conflicts and who is satisfied with only watching.
